Hiking Beyond the Property

I finally had the time to hike beyond our property lines. Most people come to the desert to walk, but we've been so busy with cleanup and renovation that we've just been too tired to move in the evening. But on the eve of my birthday I grabbed the dog and went. It was amazing. The light was crazy beautiful, and seeing our property from a different vantage point, on top of the dune, was magical.

An old outhouse, I think, tucked into the dune. Our neighbor said his house was originally built for nuns who ran a mission for the local indians. Hmmm.

This is our neighbor's oasis. Sort of crazy, to have a private lake, and it's not small. It's probably what's left of the original lake of our valley.

T and I watching the moonrise on the dune. Although I'm not thrilled with the offroading that goes on, the paths do make it easier to walk. Our neighbor has a collection of RVs going on. Sigh.

Anna does most of the writing. Ted does most of the photos. But sometimes we switch. We are repairing a distressed property in 29 Palms, California, and eventually hope to run an artist residency there.
